Frequently Asked Questions
We accept new & unworn handmade knit, crochet, and woven wearable and winter-focused garments such as: beanies, socks, gloves, ear warmers, scarves, cowls, shawls, mittens, sweaters, cardigans, etc.
You can craft in any pattern, color, and fiber type/weight, it does not need to be machine washable. We recommend crafting in darker colors as they look cleaner longer, however our youth have frequently requested colorful items as well! We offer some free patterns on our Volunteer Resources page. However, you do not have to use these patterns.
No, unfortunately, we only accept donations from Late September until February. To stay up to date, sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media!
Please fill out and include the Inventory Form (https://www.knittherainbow.org/_files/ugd/6c09f8_949ac1ce861e4ccdabf34c312f2896b4.pdf)with your donations.
Yes:
• Please do not affix any tags or messages to the garments as KtR attaches a tag and a handmade tiny heart, so that all of our donations are uniform.
• Please do not affix garments together as sets (pairs of socks, gloves, etc. are fine, just not sets such as hat & scarf).
No, Please weave in your ends and complete any finishing before donating.
At this time we are unable to accept yarn, notions/tools, blankets, or store-bought items. If you want to donate these items, one of Our Community Partners (https://www.knittherainbow.org/community-partners)may be interested.

• If there's not a drop off near you, you can mail your donations to us at our office. New address will be announced soon.
• You may also hand deliver to our office in NYC. In that case we ask that you email Austin at info@knittherainbow.org (mailto:info@knittherainbow.org)to set up an appointment.
We can provide an in-kind donation receipt. Please email a request to i(mailto:toinfo@knittherainbow.org)nfo@knittherainbow.org (mailto:info@knittherainbow.org)with the total number of garments and the market value of all donated items.
